Rumors

Does Microsoft strategy have an iPad shaped hole in it?

arstechnica  thinks so.

Brian is thinking about why there’s a hole in their strategy.  Is there a secret project in the works?  Hmm…

Brian is wondering about the upcoming tablets in the Microsoft world.

Erik wonders if it will be Windows 7 desktop.  Apparently, it will be Windows 7 embedded… which (to Erik) is mostly the desktop version.

Mike Hall has a preview of Windows Embedded Compact 7 (preview).  What a name.

Prototype of ASUS Eee Pad.

Erik and Kelly make up silly product names

Application Of The Week

Windows Phone 7 Bus Tracking App

Honorable mention – World Cup App by MSN Brazil (in Portugese)

Extra Conversation

Erik thinks that sharing your idea for an application is rarely a bad thing.  It’s the User Experience (Ux) that separates apps in the existing app stores.

Kelly points out that sharing youtube videos of your apps is also sharing your application’s Ux.

Brian points out that there might be Intellectual Property benefits to posting videos of your application.  It’s also their business story that’s important.

Rumors

30 Million Win Phone 7 Devices Forcasted by 2012

*Late-breaking correction*: the 30 million number cited here and in the show is not just WP7 devices.

Brian talks about the forecast and what it means.

Erik thinks that 30 million sounds reasonable.  This is partly because smartphones will be more popular overall.

Kelly thinks Android will have a pretty good lead at that point.

The Rumor about Steve Ballmer at WWDC (Apple Conference) is False

Was the analyst was pretty much making stuff up…?

Erik points out that Microsoft’s denial was a little weird.

There was speculation that Ballmer would announce Silverlight on the iPhone.  The crew thinks this is pretty unlikely.

Extra Discussion

Kelly has heard from (supposedly) reliable sources that Silverlight/Sharepoint consultants can bill out at $200-$300/hour.  The crew ponders the possibilities.
